General Conference Highlights ~ October 2011

Stephanie at Diapers and Divinity and Lesa at Notes about Music have teamed up and created a General Conference meme. To participate, answer the following questions on your own blog and then go to either of the above listed blogs and join in! {For a clean copy of the questions to copy and paste click here}
1.  Who were your three favorite speakers?
President Monson (Sun. AM) ~ Personal Revelation; President Uchtdorf (Sat. AM) ~ We Matter to God; Elder Carl B. Cook (Sat. PM) ~ Look Up!
2.  Which talk spoke to you the most?
President Monson (Sun. AM) ~ Personal Revelation
3.  What was your favorite Hymn and why did it move you?
Hail to the Prophet ~ I love this Hymn anyway but to hear the children sing it made it extra special.
4.  Which speaker was the best dressed?  (Come on, we can have a little fun.)
Elder David A. Bednar
5.  Were there any topics that you felt like were repeated often?  Any conference “themes”?
Recognizing and Listening to the Spirit; Personal Revelation; Repentance and Knowing we are Children of God
6.  Share a few of your favorite quotes from any of the talks (paraphrasing is fine).
Elder Hales ~ "Too often we pray to have patience but, we want it right now."
Elder Carl B. Cook quoting President Monson in the elevator ~ "Look up!"
7.  Name something(s) that made you smile or laugh during conference.
President Monson ~ "Hello! I wonder who I should call on to substitute for me?"
Elder Andersen ~ when he was relating the story of the woman with 7 children and the bus driver asked if they were all hers or were they on a picnic and she replied, "They are all mine and it is no picnic!"
Elder Bednar ~ "...fingers trained to text and to tweet..."
Elder Ardern ~ "...compulsive fingertip communication..."
8.  Was there any evidence that your children paid attention?
Yes, my 3 year-old hummed the hymns and my 5 year-old chose to watch all 4 sessions (under age 8 we only require 2 in our home). Unfortunately, my 11 year-old had to go visit her father and did not get to watch conference this time.
9.  What doctrine did you learn as you listened to the choir(s) sing?
I am a Child of God
10.  Did the music enhance your General Conference experience? How?
Yes. The music reinforces the themes of Conference. Also, my children love music so I was able to hear all the hymns!
11.  What are some of your post-conference goals?
To be more attentive to the Spirit in my life (Personal Revelation).
To read and/or listen to each talk again before April Conference.
To follow the admonition of Elder Bednar and help my children discover the "Spirit of Elijah" (genealogy).
Stephanie also hosts a General Conference Book Club. For more information or to participate click the button!

  11. I love, love, loved President Monson's talk from Sunday morning too.  Wasn't that story about the Frankfurt temple dedication amazing?  I aspire to learning the language of the Spirit that well.  I never would have had the courage to do what he did!!!  :)
