~I will NEVER forget~

where I was nine years ago today! The day before I had just take my sister to the airport and looked up at the Twin Towers. The next day they were gone. I was a new guidance counselor in a school in Bedminster, New Jersey. Almost every student, teacher and staff member in that school had a relative who worked in or near the towers! That morning I had dropped my 18 month old child at daycare for the first time. It would be 11 hours before I would see her again! It was a day of miracles as well as tragedy. While many lost their lives that day it is a miracle that there were not more. In a school of almost 500 students NOT ONE lost a parent (and many of them had at least one parent who work there). I remember going from classroom to classroom telling the students what had happened and making sure that all knew that their families were ok. I remember the Yankees and the Arizona Diamondbacks were playing in the World Series. I remember the only family member I could contact was my dad. My mom and step-dad were in Canada when the borders closed. I remember how quiet the world seemed when I was finally able to pick my daughter up from daycare. I remember all the American Flags flying the next day and for months to come. I remember...I will never forget. I will leave you with one of my favorite songs ever. I loved Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA" long before 9/11 but it holds new meaning for me now and I can no longer listen to it without tears in my eyes.
