2009 in Review

One of my goals for 2010 is to communicate more with my family and friends. So, in addition to Facebook, I am going to attempt to post to this blog at least once a month! Here goes:

2009 in Review

January-I went back to school in order to get my MBA!

February 28-Unicorn turned 9, can you believe it?!?!

March-Kurt graduated from University of Phoenix with his Masters in Secondary Education!!!

April 28-Monkey had his 1st birthday! Wow! One already!

May 11-Ladybug turned 3!

June 9 was Unicorn's last day of school and the first day of a 3-week summer vacation! Kurt, Ladybug, Monkey and I picked Unicorn up from school and headed off on our trip. 5 minutes from our campground (in Flagstaff) Monkey got sick all over his carseat. We got to camp, set up, cleaned up Monkey& started dinner. The camp stove wouldn’t work so Kurt & Ladybug ran to Safeway to get lighter fluid. Ladybug and Unicorn built forts out of sand & sticks while waiting for dinner. After dinner, the kids went to bed &  Kurt started cleaning Monkey's carseat. I went to do laundry & homework.

June 10-While putting Monkey's seat back together we discovered that a critical piece was broken. So, after packing up we went into Flagstaff to try to get it fixed & ended up buying a new carseat. We didn’t get on the road until 10 am! We arrived in Cedar City, UT at 5pm, set up camp & ate dinner. After dinner, Kurt took the girls to the park while I put Monkey to bed and did homework.

June 11-While leaving Cedar City we saw a great bumper sticker- “Annoy a Liberal: Work. Succeed. Be Happy!” We tried to stop for a picnic lunch but ended up eating in the car because the wind started blowing in off the lake (COLD) and then it started raining. We arrived in Lyman, WY at 3:30. It was cold and rainy so we upgraded our tent site to a small cabin and then cooked foil dinners in the rain. Of course, the rain stopped about 1 hour after dinner.

June 12-Kurt cooked a great breakfast: eggs, bacon & potatoes (cooked in foil over charcoal) then wrapped in tortillas. We packed up and then discovered that the van wouldn’t start. Once we got going, we made it to Rawlins, WY and met mom and Ron and had lunch with them at Pizza Hut. Then on to Missionary Village near Martin’s Cove for a couple of days.

June 13-There was an awesome storm during the night and we lost power. I headed to the Visitor’s Center at Martin’s Cove to do some homework while Kurt stayed at the trailer with the kids. Around noon, I went back to the trailer so Kurt could take the kids to Martin’s Cove and explore. The power came on just in time for me to stay at the trailer and finish up my homework! The kids and Kurt went on a handcart trek at the Cove with Mom and Ron. Then Kurt and Ron cooked dinner (burgers) in the rain!

June 14-We went to church at Martin’s Cove. The girls went to primary and made rice krispy treat handcarts, sang pioneer songs, listened to pioneer stories and got special “diamond” rings. Then we went to Split Rock and heard the story of Ephraim Hanks then to a potluck with tons of food!

June 15-Today we went into Casper, WY. On the way we stopped at Independence Rock and Steamboat Lake. In Casper, we went to the Pioneer Interpretive Center. After lunch, mom took us off-roading to see Bessemer Bend, the Oregon Trail ruts and part of the Oregon Trail where you can see for miles in all directions.

June 16-We pulled out of Martin’s Cove and headed to Dubois, WY. We swam in the pool and played at the park and had spaghetti for dinner. Then it started to rain. I tried to do homework in the KOA office but Monkey wouldn’t stop crying so we all went to bed early. Next thing we know the tent started leaking. It was a long, cold, wet night!

June 17-Kurt had a phone interview with Desert Winds High School, so I took the kids for a drive. We found a scenic drive and the view was spectacular. Then we found a little place that had AWESOME pizza and had lunch. After lunch, I had more homework to do so Kurt took the kids to Grand Teton National Park and drove around. When they got back it was raining (again) so we ate dinner in the car. We also put a tarp over the tent to help stop the leaks. We changed our reservations to leave Dubois early and move on to Livingston, MT tomorrow. It stopped raining long enough for the kids to enjoy free pony rides.

June 18-We packed up the campground in record time today (2 hours)! On our way toe Livingston, we stopped and took pictures of the kids in the snow. We also drove through Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park. We saw lots of snow, several bison, elk, 3 bear, geese, trumpeter swans and ducks. Once in Livingston we ate dinner and the girls played at the KOA park.

June 19-I did homework while Kurt took the kids to a museum in Livingston, Sacagawea Park and to Bozeman. The kids played at the park until Dad, Kathy, Mandy, Wes and E2 arrived and we all had dinner.

June 20-Once again I did homework while the other adults took all the kids to Sacagawea Park and Dad went to get Jeff, Amber and E1 from the airport. Later that night I went with Dad to pick up Jenn from the airport. We also found out the Kurt got the job at Desert Winds H.S.!

June 21-Took forever to get everyone moving this morning. After we were all up we went to Lewis & Clark Caverns. We all made it to the entrance, but once we got there Monkey was done so I took him back to the van to wait for the others to finish the tour. Ladybug walked all the way up to the cavern, through the cavern and most of the way back! Wow!!

June 22-Today we drove into Yellowstone. We saw bison, antelope & elk. We watched Old Faithful erupt and did lots of walking and tons of driving. Around 8:30 we found a little cafĂ© outside the park and had dinner. On the way back to camp a large rock attacked our van. The sole casualty was the front, right tire & rim.  Kurt, Dad, Jeff, Wes, Mandy & Jen all helped change the tire. We finally made it back to camp at 11 pm.

June 23-Jenn, Monkey, Kurt and I drove into Bozeman to see about getting a new tire & rim. Unicorn & Ladybug stayed with everyone else and played, caught bugs and went to Sacagawea Park. When we got back we joined up with everyone and then took the kids fishing.  Unicorn caught a fish!

June 24-Monkey, Kurt and I went back to Bozeman to get the tire fixed. The girls stayed with Dad and Kathy and played. We all had S’mores after dinner.

June 25-Off to Arco, ID. We were delayed by the breaks on Dad’s trailer. Hung out at the KOA campground watched a movie and had free ice cream.

June 26-Went to Crater’s of the Moon on the way to Jerome. Pretty cool place. Then to Jerome.

June 27-Today was the Roberson Family Reunion. We hung out at the community center park all day eating food, playing on the playground & chatting.

June 28-After a very long, tiring & fun trip we decide to drive straight home! We left Jerome around noon and drove the rest of the day and all night.

June 29-We arrive home around 2 am. Glad to be in our own beds again!! :)

July-Kurt started a new job at the Casa Grande Union High School District! He works Monday-Thursday nights and Friday mornings at the alternative school!

August 18-I opened the doors of my preschool: Desert Stars Learning Academy (with two students)! Ladybug started Preschool!

August 25-Unicorn started 4th grade!

August 26-our Nanny (Tiffany) had a beautiful, bouncing, baby boy (K)!

August 30-Kurt turned 42!

September 10-I enrolled a student in the homework help portion of my business!

September 22-I turned 34!

October 15-Kurt and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary! Yea us!

October 19-Kurt got his motorcycle license!

October 31-the kids enjoyed Halloween. Monkey was a skeleton, Ladybug was a puppy dog and Unicorn was a Hollywood movie star! One sad note here: our nanny and her baby moved out.

November-Ladybug attended Potty Training Boot Camp at Grandma’s house and was potty-trained in 24 hours! Yea…we have been waiting for this for over a year now! :) Also, Jen came to visit! :)

December-I enrolled another student in my preschool (3 paying clients now)! The kids got to sit on Santa’s lap, got letters from Santa, made a gingerbread house with Kurt and enjoyed Christmas at home and at Grandma’s house. We also went to Mt. Lemmon and played in the snow!
